" Lately, I've been receiving inquiries from patients who are planning to travel to India to visit the four sacred places of pilgrimage in India and Nepal. I would like to take this opportunity to recommend that, in addition to booking a tour, it would be beneficial to consult with a doctor before the trip. "
Many people may say, "I’ve been to India several times and never got sick. Why do I need to get so many vaccinations and spend all that money?"
But do you know what health issues Thai travelers to India might face? Today, I’d like to share some important information with you.
Studies show that 52% of Thai travelers experience health issues during their trip, with an average duration of 10 days in India. The most common health problems are:
1. Respiratory infections (31.1%), such as cough, runny nose, and sore throat
2. Musculoskeletal issues (21.7%)
3. Fever (12.7%)
4. Diarrhea (9.8%)
5. Skin conditions (6.6%)
6. Animal bites (1.9%)
Additionally, even after returning from their trip, 16.8% of travelers reported experiencing health problems.
However, prevention is always better than falling ill, which can cause frustration, wasted time, and missed work opportunities. Therefore, I highly recommend consulting with a doctor to prepare before your trip, especially for vaccinations against influenza, hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus, and rabies. These vaccines will help protect you from various diseases.
Keep in mind that each vaccine requires at least two weeks to take effect. If you have travel plans, I suggest seeing a doctor at least 4-6 weeks before your departure. Should you have any further questions, feel free to reach out for more information.
